Bound to Windsor gives Casey family meaningful stakes win
Bound to Windsor topped an emotional trifecta Saturday night at Charles Town, where she won her third straight stakes race in the $50,000 Eleanor Casey Memorial. B’ Wild Cork finished five lengths back in second, while it was another neck back to third-place finisher Imagoodchatterbug.
James Casey, husband of the late Eleanor Casey, bred, owns, and trains Bound to Windsor, while the couple’s son, John Casey, trains Imagoodchatterbug.
James and Eleanor Casey founded Taylor Mountain Farm, which has produced a number of standout West Virginia-breds, it was announced in a winner’s-circle presentation Saturday.
Bound to Windsor ($2.60) bounded out to the lead in the Eleanor Casey Memorial, setting fractions of 23.65 seconds for the opening quarter and 48.26 for the half-mile. She opened up on her rivals in the stretch run of the seven-furlong race run around two turns, going on to cover the distance in 1:27.63.
Christian Hiraldo was aboard Bound to Windsor, who started her stakes streak with a win over her division on the West Virginia Breeders Classic card Oct. 14 at Charles Town. One start later, she defeated colts in the track’s West Virginia Futurity on Nov. 4. Bound to Windsor earned $30,600 for her victory in the Eleanor Casey Memorial, improving her career record to four wins from five starts for earnings of $118,601.
Bound to Windsor is a daughter of Windsor Castle. The Eleanor Casey Memorial was for 2-year-old fillies bred in West Virginia.
