Boulanger sues Gulfstream

Jockey Gary Boulanger has filed a lawsuit in Broward County (Fla.) Circuit Court against Gulfstream Park seeking damages for injuries he sustained in a spill at the track on Jan. 30.

The suit claims Gulfstream failed to maintain properly the new turf course installed before the 2005 meet and did not provide timely transportation to the hospital after Boulanger was injured.

Boulanger was thrown after his mount, In Hand, broke down approaching the far turn of the Grade 3 Mac Diarmida Handicap on Gulfstream's new turf course, which was listed as firm. In Hand was euthanized.

Boulanger underwent emergency surgery to remove his spleen and a blood clot in his brain. Boulanger, 37, has not returned to riding since the accident.

Officials of Gulfstream, owned by Magna Entertainment Corp., did not return phone calls seeking comment on the suit Thursday.
