Botox Katie rallies for 91-1 upset in Shelby County Stakes

Manuelito posted an 10-1 upset in the $100,000 William Henry Harrison Stakes on Wednesday at Horseshoe Indianapolis. That was nothing. A race earlier, Botox Katie blew up the tote board with a 91-1 win in the $100,000 Shelby County Stakes.
Botox Katie came into the Shelby County, a six-furlong sprint for Indiana-sired older fillies and mares, with three wins from 13 starts. In her two races this season, she’d been sixth, beaten more than 11 lengths, and fifth, beaten more than 21 lengths, in a pair of statebred-restricted allowance races. But on Wednesday, cutting back from a route to a sprint, she came with a wide, sustained rally from last of 11 under jockey Santo Sanjur and was home by 1 1/4 lengths, paying $182 to her sparse supporters.
Finishing second was 31-1 shot Bella Bolle, who triggered a $2 exacta payoff of $2,532. Lil Evie, the 3-1 second choice, was third, one length behind Bella Bolle, as suspect 13-10 favorite Hungarian Princess, bidding to win her second straight Shelby County, loomed while wide around the turn before fading to 10th. Bred and trained by Tianna Richardville, Botox Katie is a 6-year-old daughter of Domestic Dispute out of Insure, by Menifee. She’s owned by Thirstyacres Racing and was timed in 1:11.94 over a fast track.
Manuelito ($22.40) also won with a wide run from the rear of the field, getting up by a neck over 7-5 favorite Mr Chaos, who could not hold on despite racing on the lead through slow fractions. Mr Chaos, racing for the first time since October, got the better of his longshot pace rival, Tay, who did hold third at 22-1.
Manuelito had been second in the 2022 Harrison, another six-furlong dash for Indiana-sired horses, but came into Wednesday’s contest just a three-time winner from 31 starts. Manuelito did not perform like a win-shy horse, making one last push the final 100 yards to best Mr Chaos in a time of 1:11.73.
John Haran owns and trains Manuelito, a 5-year-old by Majestic Harbor out of Harper’s Dream, by Baltimore Bob.
