Drawn by a $75,000 purse and the opportunity to race on Polytrack, half of the eight horses entered in Saturday’s Cincinnati Trophy Stakes at Turfway Park are Southern shippers. Bossy, True to You, and Flat Deposit are in from Fair Grounds, and Right On Kitten invades from Gulfstream Park. Bossy, coming off an optional-claiming victory on the Fair Grounds turf Dec. 31, looks ideally suited to the conditions of the 6 1/2-furlong Cincinnati Trophy for 3-year-old fillies. She is an established sprinter and also is a winner on Polytrack, having recorded her first victory on the surface in September at Arlington. Florent Geroux rides Bossy, a daughter of Street Boss, for trainer Wayne Catalano and owner Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. The Cincinnati Trophy serves as a prep for the Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks on Spiral Day, March 21 – a race that Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners won in 2012 with In Lingerie, an eventual Grade 1 winner. KEY CONTENDERS Bossy (Last 3 Beyers: 67-67-24) DRF FORMULATOR FACT: Catalano has a stellar record when shifting horses from turf to synthetic, winning with 31 percent of 87 such starters over the past two years. A $2 wager on each would have returned an average of $2.73. Flat Deposit (Last 3 Beyers: 67-62-65) ◗ She finished only 2 1/4 lengths behind Bossy when fourth two starts ago on the grass at Fair Grounds and was subsequently a distant third in a dirt route there behind Lovely Maria and Shook Up – two fillies expected to contest next week’s Rachel Alexandra Stakes at Fair Grounds. Right On Kitten (Last 3 Beyers: 47-62-61) ◗ A daughter of Kitten’s Joy, she is the lone stakes winner in the field, having won a soft renewal of the La Senorita Stakes at Retama Park last year to go unbeaten in two starts at age 2. ◗ She faded to eighth as the favorite in the Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream last out Jan. 3. Cara Marie (Last 3 Beyers: 83-27-55) ◗ She won a maiden race over Turfway’s Polytrack by 12 1/4 lengths Dec. 21, posting a race-best 83 Beyer Speed Figure, though it came going a longer distance in a two-turn mile. True to You (Last 3 Beyers: 62-76-35) ◗ She showed the versatility to win a dirt sprint at Indiana Grand last year; most recently was a well-beaten third behind multiple stakes winner Promise Me Silver in the Letellier Memorial at Fair Grounds on Dec. 20.
