Bosserati remained unbeaten on turf Sunday as she led throughout to capture the $100,000 Stormy Blues at Laurel Park. She won by a half-length over My Sweet Affair, while it was another half-length back in third to After Eight.
The Stormy Blues was a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint for 3-year-old fillies. It was run over firm ground.
Bosserati ($11.60) broke sharply and proceeded to lead the field through an opening quarter in 21.55 seconds and a half-mile in 43.76. She continued on to win in a brisk 1:01.44.
Following the race, the riders of My Sweet Affair and Sweet Harmony claimed foul against the winner, one for interference at the start and the other for interference on the turn. The stewards made no change to the order of finisher.
The win was the third straight for Bosserati, who moved to turf for the first time in May and won a $25,000 conditioned claiming race at Pimlico. She came back and won a first-level allowance on turf one start later at Pimlico, before winning the first stakes race of her career in the Stormy Blues.
Jockey Sheldon Russell said in an interview with Laurel officials that it was owner Joel Politi’s suggestion to try turf with Bosserati. Politi bred the daughter of Holy Boss.
Russell was interviewed holding one of his children on the Father’s Day card at Laurel.
“My greatest gifts,” he said of his children.
Russell rode Bosserati for his wife, trainer Brittany Russell.
Bosserati has now won 4 of 10 starts for earnings of $175,760.
