Born in a Breeze gets up late to win Vice Regent

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Born in a Breeze ($8.10) benefited from a fine ride by Alan Garcia to take Sunday’s $125,000 Vice Regent Stakes, a one-mile turf route for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds at Woodbine.
Born in a Breeze saved ground at the back of the pack on the turn, before rallying wide between rivals in the stretch to collar the favored Kingsport late and win by a half-length in 1:34.85.
The pacemaker Super Colerosa finished a close third in a field reduced to eight with the scratch of Conquest Strate Up.
Born in a Breeze banked $75,000 in his first stakes score for owner Earle Mack.
“He had some maneuvering to do to get through that field,” said trainer Mark Frostad. “Alan got him through and made a great run.”
Theogony wins first stakes in Belle Mahone
Theogony ($17.30) outran the stablemates Smartyfly and Checkered Past to notch her first stakes under Gary Boulanger in the $108,000 Belle Mahone on Sunday’s undercard.
Theogony attended moderate fractions before taking control in the stretch en route to a 1 1/4-length score over Smartyfly in 1:44.13 for 1 1/16 miles. The favored Checkered Past checked in third after lacking room early in the lane.
Theogony, who was supplemented by trainer Mark Casse for $2,000, earned $60,000 for Conrad Farm.
