Booklet retired after injury

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grade 1 winner Booklet has been retired from racing because of an ankle injury sustained in a workout at Keeneland earlier this month, his trainer, John Ward, said Monday. Booklet, a 4-year-old Notebook colt, is at Ward's barn at Keeneland while his owner, John Oxley, explores stud options for him.

Booklet started his career with trainer Steve Klesaris and moved to Ward's barn at 3. His 2-year-old season featured victories in the In Reality and Dover stakes and a third in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special. At 3, Booklet won the Holy Bull and Fountain of Youth, then finished second in the Blue Grass. He bypassed the Kentucky Derby and finished 12th in the Preakness.

This year, Booklet started just twice and finished second in the Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream. He retires with a record of 14-7-2-1 and earnings of $989,460. He was named the Florida-bred horse of the year for 2002.
