Boogie Too takes next step up Monday in Parx feature
The feature at Parx on Monday is a second-level optional-claiming sprint that looks like the next step up the ladder for Boogie Too, a highly successful claim for trainer Ramon Preciado.
Preciado, who is battling Patricia Farro for the lead in the Parx standings, claimed Boogie Too for $16,000 at Aqueduct in March. The 4-year-old gelding has since won 4 of 5 starts and $75,000 while moving up in class from claiming to starter-allowance company and to a first-level allowance win last time out. The 98 Beyer Speed Figure he earned in that win stands tall here.
Other notable horses in the field:
* Calamondin is conditioned by the high-percentage Cathal Lynch, who has won with 34 percent of his starters this year. But Calamondin has not raced since winning a first-level allowance at Penn National on May 1, and Lynch’s statistics with layoff horses are okay but drop significantly from his overall figures.
Formulator Fact: Over the last five years, Lynch has won with 18 of 105 (17 percent) starters and has a $1.47 return on investment with horses coming off layoffs of 61 to 180 days.
* It’s a Bang was pulled up during the $51,000 Oh Say Stakes at Delaware Park on July 5 while making his 2014 debut but walked off the track under his own power. That trainer Donald Barr brings him back in five weeks is a positive sign, and that running line should not be overemphasized.
* In his most recent start, a second-level Pennsylvania-bred allowance, A Fleet Attitude finished well but belatedly to be second-best after lagging back in last position early – not counting the horse in the stall next to him, who stumbled badly at the start and was distanced. He will be making his second start for trainer Phil Aristone, who is third in the Parx standings.
