The National Thoroughbred Racing Association, which conducts federal lobbying efforts on behalf of Thoroughbred racing and breeding constituencies, has hired Jordan Bonfitto to the newly created position of Director of Government Affairs as it continues to shore up its presence in Washington, D.C. Bonfitto is a former director of external and intergovernmental affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which has broad responsibilities overseeing farm and labor policies, and he was also the agriculture policy advisor to the National Economic Council during the Trump Administration. Following those stints, he was the director of government affairs for the Global Cold Chain Alliance, which represents the interests of refrigerated shipping businesses. :: Get ready for Saratoga and Del Mar with a Quarterly subscription to DRF Past Performances “We’re excited to have Jordan join our team to help advocate the issues critical to the Thoroughbred racing industry,” said Tom Rooney, the former Florida Congressman who was hired to be the chief executive officer of the NTRA last year. “Jordan’s experience in the executive branch and on Capitol Hill will be a huge asset as we build out NTRA’s presence in Washington.” Rooney is the first chief executive officer of the NTRA to have formerly served in Congress. The NTRA recently opened a new office in Washington.
