Bombard, Collusion Illusion, Charlatan among Monday workers

ARCADIA, Calif. -- Bombard and Collusion Illusion, both scheduled to be pre-entered in Breeders' Cup races on Monday, worked at Santa Anita on Monday, on a day that also saw the highly regarded 3-year-old Charlatan return to the work tab.
Bombard, prepping for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint Nov. 7 at Keeneland for trainer Richard Mandella, rolled five furlongs in 59.20 seconds, the fastest drill of 53 at the distance. He most recently was second in the Grade 3 Runhappy Turf Sprint at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 12.
Collusion Illusion, a top contender for the Breeders' Cup Sprint, also worked five furlongs, going in 1:00.20 for trainer Mark Glatt. Collusion Illusion, winner of the Grade 1 Bing Crosby at Del Mar during the summer, was third most recently in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship Sept. 27.
Charlatan, injured earlier this year -- which caused him to miss all the Triple Crown races -- went three furlongs in 36.40 seconds for trainer Bob Baffert. Of the 133 works at Santa Anita on Monday, Charlatan's was the only one termed "breezing" by track clockers. Charlatan has crossed the wire first in all three of his starts, but he was disqualified from a victory in a division of the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby on May 2 owing to a medication violation. That was his last start.
