DEL MAR, Calif. – Bolt d’Oro, one of the nation’s leading 2-year-old males, is tentatively scheduled to have a three-race campaign at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting. Owner and trainer Mick Ruis said Thursday that Bolt d’Oro is likely to have his first start of 2018 in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at seven furlongs in early February. The Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at 1 1/16 miles March 10 and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby at 1 1/8 miles April 7 are other race goals, Ruis said. “I’m going in all three races,” Ruis said. :: Save on PPs, digital subscriptions, and more with DRF's Black Friday sale! Bolt d’Oro was beaten for the first time in his fourth start when he finished third by 5 1/4 lengths to Good Magic in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 4 at Del Mar. In the days after the race, Ruis said Bolt d’Oro would have a 60-day break before resuming training. The break will actually be less than 30 days. Ruis said Bolt d’Oro will begin jogging Dec. 1. “He acted like he never ran,” Ruis said. “He’s not hard on himself. He wants to run.” By Medaglia d’Oro, Bolt d’Oro has won 3 of 4 starts and earned $576,000. He is part of the discussion for the Eclipse Award as the nation’s champion 2-year-old male. Bolt d’Oro has won two Grade 1 races – the Del Mar Futurity at seven furlongs Sept. 4 and the FrontRunner Stakes at 1 1/16 miles Sept. 30.
