Bolt d'Oro drills for San Felipe Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. – Bolt d’Oro, a two-time Grade 1 winner in 2017, worked a half-mile in 48.40 seconds at Santa Anita on Friday, his second workout of the year.
Bolt d’Oro is a candidate for the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on March 10, a key prep for the $1 million Santa Anita Derby on April 7. On Friday, Bolt d’Oro was exercised by jockey Agapito Delgadillo, who works for owner and trainer Mick Ruis in the mornings. Bolt d’Oro worked alone and continued the exercise beyond a half-mile.
Bolt d’Oro was briefly sidelined in late December because of a pulled muscle. Ruis said last weekend that jockey Javier Castellano will ride Bolt d’Oro for the San Felipe, replacing Corey Nakatani. Last year, Nakatani rode Bolt d’Oro to three wins in four starts, including the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes here in September and a third-place finish as the favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Del Mar on Nov. 4.
On Thursday, the stakes winner Mourinho worked six furlongs in a sharp 1:12.60 under jockey Drayden Van Dyke in preparation for the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 19.
“That’s the best he worked,” Van Dyke said. “If he goes into it the way he worked, it will be smiles for me.”

Owned by the Phoenix Thoroughbreds partnership and trained by Bob Baffert, Mourinho won the Smarty Jones Stakes at a mile at Oaklawn Park on Jan. 15 under Van Dyke. The $500,000 Southwest Stakes will be run at 1 1/16 miles.
On Wednesday at Del Mar, Greyvitos resumed light exercise after undergoing surgery in December to have a bone chip removed from a knee, trainer Adam Kitchingman said. Greyvitos jogged a half-mile and was walked a half-mile on the track.
“He was going too crazy in his stall,” Kitchingman said.
Greyvitos has won 2 of 4 starts and earned $306,345. He won for the first time in the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes at seven furlongs at Del Mar on Nov. 11 before winning the $402,000 Springboard Mile at Remington Park in Oklahoma on Dec. 17.
The bone chip was detected when Greyvitos returned to California following that race. Kitchingman said Greyvitos will be in light training in the coming weeks before another physical exam is conducted.
“We’ll know more by the end of February,” Kitchingman said. “We’ll X-ray him again later this month.”
