Bolo will have Smith aboard if he runs in Kilroe Mile

ARCADIA, Calif. – Bolo, whose 1:33.09 mile last out was among the most impressive turf wins of the Santa Anita meet, will have a different rider if he runs March 12 in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile.
Flavien Prat rode Bolo to victory last out in the Grade 2 Arcadia, but Prat is committed to ride Bal a Bali in the Kilroe for trainer Richard Mandella.
That is no problem for Bolo. Mike Smith, who won twice on Bolo when he was a 2-year-old in 2014, will ride him in the Kilroe on turf. Trainer Carla Gaines said this week she is “leaning” to the Kilroe, but stopped short of committing. Bolo is still being considered for the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap on dirt, also March 12.
Bolo has two third-place finishes in his three starts on dirt. On turf, Bolo is 4 for 6.
Bolo’s victory in the Arcadia came in his first start in more than seven months.
