Bold Script has no problem with Tapeta, wins Princess Elizabeth

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Bold Script stole the show in Sunday’s $225,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes, scoring by 7 1/2 lengths in her first start on Woodbine’s Tapeta surface.
Malibu Dawn set slow fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route, with Bold Script ($6.30) pressing her throughout under Gary Boulanger. Bold Script assumed command entering the stretch, and then drew away to win in a time of 1:45.20.
Lady Azalea nosed out the 3-5 favorite, Tiz Breathtaking, for second in the six-horse field of Canadian-bred 2-year-old fillies.
Bold Script made each of her four previous starts around one turn on turf, and was coming off a second against males in the Cup and Saucer Stakes.
“Our big concern was the two turns, and how much she’d shut off,” Boulanger said. “She’s a pretty aggressive filly in the morning. (Trainer Stu Simon) said it was up to (me), to ride her with confidence. She broke and pricked her ears right away. When I asked her, she just took off and she threw her ears up again, and waited. She’s a really nice filly.”
Simon had high praise for Bold Script, a daughter of champion sprinter Speightstown.
“She’s just been a dream filly to train,” Simon said. “These are the kind you get up early in the morning for. She just does everything right. She trains over every surface well. I can’t say enough about her. She’s just a pleasure to be around.”
Bold Script earned $135,000 in her first stakes success for owner-breeder Chiefswood Stables.
