Bold Cait looks ready to stake her claim as the best Ohio-bred 3-year-old filly of 2015. Stretching out beyond 6 1/2 furlongs for the first time, Bold Cait dominated last year’s champion Ohio-bred 2-year-old filly Justalittlesmoke by 7 3/4 lengths in Sunday’s $75,000 Tomboy Stakes at Belterra Park. Racing over a muddy, sealed track under Edgar Paucar, Bold Cait ($6) ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.48 for her fifth win in eight lifetime starts. The Tomboy was originally scheduled for turf, but was shifted to the main track. Trained by Eric Reed for Korus Derby Club and Kay Reed, Bold Cait has won four of her last five starts. Her only loss during that span was a runner-up finish to Justalittlesmoke in the six-furlong Southern Park at Mahoning Valley in late March. Justalittlesmoke, coming off a win over open company in the Austintown Filly Sprint, saw her four-race winning streak come to an end. She was racing around two turns for just the second time in her nine-race career. Justalittlesmoke was clearly second best as the 4-5 favorite. It was another four lengths back to the maiden Ohio Silver, who got third at 32-1.
