Bodacious Eagle named World Champion Quarter Horse

Bodacious Eagle, who won the All American Gold Cup at Ruidoso Downs in September and the Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos last month, was named the 2018 World Champion Quarter Horse in a ceremony at Oklahoma City on Thursday evening.
Owned by Johnny Trotter of Hereford, Texas, and trained through the year by the father and son team of Mike and Justin Joiner, Bodacious Eagle won 3 of 7 starts and earned $453,600 in 2018. A 7-year-old gelding, Bodacious Eagle has won 14 of 33 starts and earned $1,297,536 in his career.
Aside from the two major stakes wins, Bodacious Eagle was third in the Remington Park Championship in June and second in the Los Alamitos Championship in October. He is expected to resume racing later this year.
Bodacious Eagle was also named champion aged gelding of 2018. In other awards for older horses, Tarzanito was recognized as champion aged stallion and One Sweet Racy was honored as champion aged mare.
Flash and Roll was named overall champion 2-year-old and champion 2-year-old filly, while Apocalyptical Jess was honored as champion 2-year-old gelding and Flying Cowboy 123 was recognized as champion 2-year-old colt.
Flash and Roll won the Golden State Million and Los Alamitos Two Million futurities at Los Alamitos in the fall.
Hotstepper, the winner of the All American and Texas Classic derbys, was named overall champion 3-year-old and 3-year-old gelding. KVN Corona, the champion 2-year-old colt of 2017, won the champion 3-year-old colt title for 2018. A Political Lady was named outstanding 3-year-old filly.
Zoomin Racer was named champion distance horse for winning two 870-yard races in New Mexico.
Among people, Grant Farms of Louisiana was recognized as champion breeders. The farm bred three of the 10 finalists for the $3 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in September.
Trotter, who also owns One Sweet Racy, was the champion owner. Blane Wood, who trains Apocalyptical Jess and Flying Cowboy 123, won the training championship for the first time.
Cody Jensen, who rode Hotstepper and Bodacious Eagle, was honored as champion jockey. Jensen was injured in the first half of the year, and won 20 races from 85 mounts.
The champions were selected by a committee.
