Bobby Abu Dhabi possible for Futurity

DEL MAR, Calif. – Bobby Abu Dhabi, a 2-year-old son of Macho Uno who was a sharp debut winner against maidens last Saturday at Del Mar, will be considered for the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Los Alamitos on Dec. 10.
“If not, he’ll run in an allowance race and we’ll go through his conditions,” trainer Peter Miller said.
“We’ve always thought a lot of him since we bought him.”
Bobby Abu Dhabi was purchased as a 2-year-old in training at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. sale in April for $335,000 by the Rockingham Ranch of Gary Hartunian.
◗ Drefong, in his first work since winning the Breeders’ Cup Sprint on Nov. 5, worked three furlongs at Santa Anita on Wednesday in 36 seconds for trainer Bob Baffert. He is scheduled to make his next start in the Grade 1 Malibu on opening day of Santa Anita’s winter meeting Dec. 26.
◗ Del Mar Debutante winner Union Strike, preparing for the Grade 1 Starlet at Los Alamitos on Dec. 10, worked five furlongs in 1:01.20 on Tuesday at Santa Anita for trainer Craig Dollase. She will be ridden by Gary Stevens, who announced on Wednesday that he would be riding first call for owner Mick Ruis's Ruis Racing and would not be relocating to Oaklawn Park in January.
◗ Trainer John Shirreffs had been mulling over whether to run Gormley in the CashCall Futurity, but that decision was made for him Wednesday morning. Gormley was scheduled to work at Del Mar, but he had a slightly elevated temperature and stayed in the barn.
“I won’t run now,” Shirreffs said.
