Bob and Jackie hammers for $190,000 to top Keeneland November sale session

Coady Photography Bob and Jackie sells for $190,000 on Monday at the Keeneland November sale.

Multiple stakes winner Bob and Jackie sold for $190,000 to lead the way as the Keeneland November breeding stock sale moved into its final days with a selection of racing and/or stallion prospects set to take top billing.

Keeneland reported 256 horses sold in Monday's session, the eighth of 10 overall in the November sale, for gross receipts of $3,797,300. The session's average price finished at $14,833, while the median was $8,000. Year-to-year, session-to-session figures are not truly comparable as Keeneland November moves into its final days, because the placement of the active racehorses, a market segment that has come to attract strong interest at this auction, fell in different sessions from 2019 to 2020. The 2019 November sale also ran for 12 sessions, as opposed to 10 this year, meaning there will be no comparable figures for the final days of the sale.

The buyback rate in the final days of the sale continues to be strong, checking in at 12 percent for the session. A figure under 20 percent is considered strong in an extremely selective marketplace that has become more so in the economic uncertainty of this season.

Bob and Jackie sold to Price/Recio Bloodstock, as agent for Calbin Nguyen. The 4-year-old Twirling Candy colt was offered as a racing or stallion prospect by St George Sales, as agent.

Bob and Jackie has won 4 of 8 career starts to date while racing as a homebred for the financially-troubled Zayat Stables, the stock from which is being liquidated under the guidance of a court-appointed receiver. Bob and Jackie won the 2018 Eddie Logan Stakes, 2019 Let It Ride Stakes, and 2020 Wickerr Stakes for trainer Richard Baltas. Most recently, he was third in the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile on Oct. 3 at Santa Anita.

The session's highest-priced broodmare was $85,000 Convinced, sold to Four Star Sales, while the day's highest-priced weanling was a $72,000 Free Drop Billy filly purchased by Spendthrift Farm. Both horses were consigned by Vinery Sales, as agent.

Convinced, an unraced Tiznow mare, sold carrying her second foal, to the cover of Maclean's Music. Convinced is out of a full sister to Grade 1 winner and leading sire Tapit, and multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Madefromlucky also appears on the catalog page.

The session-leading weanling is from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Free Drop Billy, who stands at Spendthrift. The filly is out of the winning Stormy Atlantic mare Help the Children, a daughter of multiple graded stakes winner Humble Clerk.
