Blumin Bauble favored in Princess Elaine

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Blumin Bauble will be favored over seven rivals in the $35,000 added Princess Elaine Stakes for Minnesota-bred fillies at Canterbury Park, but several loom with upset chances.

Trained by Doug Oliver, Blumin Bauble was named the statebred champion 3-year old last season following her win in the Minnesota Oaks. She showed continued development with a five-length win over Minnesota-bred foes in the Lady Slipper Stakes on opening weekend.

The 1 1/16-mile Princess Elaine is contested over the turf, and winning over the grass course is something Blumin Bauble has yet to do in two starts over the surface. She exits a productive race where she finished third behind two mares who figured prominently in the HBPA Mile Stakes this weekend, and a repeat of that effort might be enough to prevail in the Princess Elaine.

Pickin the Pace had strung together several good efforts over the turf this meet before failing as the odds-on favorite in her most recent start against allowance company. She might pull the upset with a reprise of her best form.

Fancy Injun has the pedigree to suggest she could take the Princess Elaine, as her dam is a half-sister to Blair's Cove Stakes winner Northern Injun.

Burn the Legacy showed improvement when she dead-heated for second in the Lady Slipper Stakes this season following an eight-month layoff. Burn the Legacy and Pickin the Pace are the only two runners in the Princess Elaine who have won on the turf.
