Bluebirds Over catches One Bay Hemingway in Grey Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Florida shipper Bluebirds Over added Lasix in a professional score over longshot One Bay Hemingway in Saturday’s Grade 3 Grey Stakes for 2-year-olds at Woodbine.
With Edgard Zayas aboard, Bluebirds Over went straight to the lead in the 1 1/16-mile test before being relegated to second on the backstretch, as One Bay Hemingway set honest fractions under Jose Campos.
Bluebirds Over ($7.20) wore down One Bay Hemingway in the stretch to prevail by 1 1/2 lengths, in a time of 1:45.32. Mo Tourist finished third and was followed by Forever Dixie and the favored Hal, who was eased in the final furlong.

A son of English Channel, Bluebirds Over won his only other outing by eight lengths despite running rank on the lead in a Nov. 5 maiden special on the Tapeta at Gulfstream.
“Today, he broke out of there very sharp and relaxed from the get-go,” Zayas said. “He got pressure from the outside, but I took him back to second. It was perfect. He ran not long ago. I think he’s really impressive.”
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., Bluebirds Over earned $90,000 of the $159,300 purse for owner-breeders Edward Seltzer and Beverly Anderson.
