Blue Sky Kowboy back from layoff in turf allowance

Marcus Hersh|May 16, 2018

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trainer Michele Boyce has a barn well stocked with talented Illinois-breds. The 4-year-old Devileye already made a winning return to the races on opening weekend at Arlington, and on Friday, it’s Blue Sky Kowboy’s turn.

A fine second, beaten less than one length, in the $100,000 Hawthorne Derby last Oct. 28 in his final start at 3, Blue Sky Kowboy is part of a full, competitive field entered in race 8 on Friday, a first-level turf-route allowance carded at about one mile.

Blue Sky Kowboy is the mount of Julio Felix, who enters this racing week three wins short of 3,000 for his career.

Blue Sky Kowboy, by Kodiak Kowboy and out of the very productive mare Kate the Great, was somewhat immature last year but showed talent from the start and improved with racing, and figures to be a better 4-year-old. He might actually be a playable price on Friday with Twenty Four Seven the likely favorite for Midwest Thoroughbreds and trainer Roger Brueggemann.
