Blonde Bomber eases her way back to work

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – It was back to work, sort of, for Blonde Bomber on Monday morning at Gulfstream Park.
Breezing for the first time since her third-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, Blonde Bomber went an easy-as-can-be half-mile in 49.60 seconds shortly after the renovation break while being kept off the rail throughout to prevent her from doing too much. The work amounted to little more than a leg-stretcher to “keep her happy,” according to trainer Stanley Gold.
“She just needed to do something,” Gold said. “I’ve got her on an easy on-and-off schedule right now. But if we decided to bring her back in a two-turn race, you can’t sit around too long and do nothing and then bring her off the bench in a race like that.”

Gold said he’s got plenty of options to choose from regarding Blonde Bomber’s 3-year-old debut, including the local series of races for 3-year-old fillies that commences with the seven-furlong Forward Gal on Feb. 3. He’s also looking at stakes in Tampa and at the Fair Grounds for Blonde Bomber, a homebred daughter of Fort Larned owned by Arindel.
“The races for 3-year-old fillies here begin at seven-eighths and stretch out as they go along,” Gold said. “The ones at the Fair Grounds, beginning with the Silverbulletday, are all around two turns. At the moment, we’ve got nothing mapped out for her.”
Blonde Bomber rallied from last to finish 3 1/2 lengths behind winner Caledonia Road in the Juvenile Fillies.
