HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Known Agenda edged Greatest Honour in a tight win photo in an Aqueduct maiden race in November, but the colts have been on divergent paths since then. While Greatest Honour will be looking to further his stature as a major Kentucky Derby contender when he goes favored Saturday in the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park, Known Agenda is pursuing a more modest immediate goal. “Hopefully, this will catapult him into something better the next go-round,” trainer Todd Pletcher said of Known Agenda who is dropping into the allowance ranks Friday at Gulfstream. :: Enhance your handicapping with DRF’s Gulfstream Park Clocker Report With leading jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. riding from post 4, Known Agenda figures as a solid favorite in a field of six 3-year-olds in the fourth of 10 races, a $47,000 first-level allowance going 1 1/8 miles on the main track. Pletcher and Vinnie Viola, who bred and owns Known Agenda under his St. Elias Stable banner, are hoping the chestnut Curlin colt will rebound off a defeat as the favorite in his last race, the Feb. 6 Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs. Known Agenda was no threat in that Derby qualifier after losing virtually all chance with a sluggish beginning. He eventually mustered a mild rally to finish a no-threat fifth. “He left himself with way too much to do,” Pletcher said. Known Agenda will race in blinkers and on the bleeder medication Lasix for the first time Friday. “Hopefuly, the blinkers will help get his attention a little earlier in the race,” Pletcher said. “We really feel like he’s one who’s shown talent, so we’re looking for an improved effort.” Pletcher has a second starter in the Friday feature in Amount (post 6, Luis Saez), another chestnut Curlin colt looking to rebound off a subpar race. After a flashy Dec. 26 debut, Amount was eased in his only subsequent outing, the Jan. 30 Holy Bull won by Greatest Honour. “There was nothing major that went wrong,” Pletcher said. “He was fine afterward. Going straight into the stake was just too much of a jump for him, everything considered. He probably needs a little more seasoning, so we’re taking this step back into an allowance with him.” The Friday feature had been targeted by another Derby hopeful in Prevalence, but the Godolphin homebred recently missed a scheduled workout and was not entered. That leaves Top Gun Tommy (post 1, Paco Lopez), the only two-time winner in the field, as perhaps the top threat to the Pletcher duo. Trainer Kelly Breen scratched Top Gun Tommy from a Wednesday allowance at Tampa Bay Downs to await this spot instead. :: Bet horse racing on DRF Bets. Double Your First Deposit Up to $250. Join Now. The apparent speed of the race is Etched in Stone (post 5, Jose Ortiz), exiting a pair of sprints for Larry Rivelli. Rounding out the cast are Warrior in Chief (post 3, Robby Albarado), a last-out maiden winner for Ken McPeek, and All Bodes Well (post 2, Corey Lanerie), who has yet to come close to finishing first. All Bodes Well has been declared the winner of an Oct. 11 maiden race at Keeneland, even after finishing a distant third. The first-place finisher, Saffa’s Day, was disqualified for a medication violation, and the apparent runner-up, Sound Money, was declared a non-starter in the immediate race aftermath because of a gate malfunction. First post Friday is 1:10 p.m. Eastern, with the fourth going at 2:37, prior to the 20-cent Rainbow 6 being held as races 5-10. The Rainbow 6 was expected to offer a pool guarantee of about $350,000, assuming the jackpot was not swept Wednesday or Thursday by a solo winning ticket. Sunshine and a high of 81 are in the local forecast, so all five turf races on the card should proceed as scheduled.
