Shigeki Kikkawa Blingismything (inside) narrowly prevails over Smoove It in the Wilshire.

ARCADIA, Calif.- Blingismything trailed pacesetter Birdlover by two lengths with a furlong remaining in Sunday’s $100,250 Wilshire Stakes at Santa Anita.

Jockey Tyler Baze was aboard Blingismything, and had the competition where he wanted them.

“I had a lot of horse,” Baze said. “She picked them up like a good thing.”

Closing on the rail, Blingismything surged to the front in the final strides, and was the beneficiary of a fortunate head bob to win the Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes by a head over an unlucky Smoove It.

Had the finish been a stride before or after the wire, the result could have been different. Racing officials needed six minutes to determine the order of finish.

Blingismything won her first stakes in the Wilshire. A 5-year-old mare by Arch, Blingismything races for Tom Arndt and Joe Masino’s Class Racing Stable and trainer Eric Kruljac.

Blingismything ($7.40) ran a mile in turf in 1:37.16. Birdlover, who set a poky pace of 23.64 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 48.79 seconds for a half-mile, finished third as the 9-5 favorite, losing by a nose and a head.

Indecise finished fourth, followed by Sky Treasure and Uzziel.

There were two key scratches on Sunday morning. Moulin de Mougin, the winner of the Grade 2 John Mabee Stakes at Del Mar last summer, was withdrawn because of a bruised foot, trainer Richard Mandella said. Thegirlinthatsong, who won the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes in January, was withdrawn after trainer Jerry Hollendorfer opted not to run the 4-year-old filly on a turf course that sustained rain on Saturday.

Blingismything has won 4 of 10 starts and earned $246,330. She was second in the Megahertz Stakes in January, and third in her next two starts – the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes in February and the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes in April.

Masino said that Blingismything will be pointed for the $300,000 Gamely Stakes, a Grade 1 at 1 1/8 miles on turf on May 25.
