The $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial for 2-year-old fillies at Remington Park on Friday night appears to be a simple pace read. Bling It On Baby is the speed from the rail. “She’s a quick filly,” said trainer J.R. Caldwell. The Gaylord, to be run over 6 1/2 furlongs, figures to produce starters for the $100,000 Trapeze at Remington on Dec. 14. The field Friday night includes Tapalite, who is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Cuvee, and Stratagem, a stakes winner over males in July. KEY CONTENDERS Bling It On Baby (Beyer: 69) ◗ She broke on top and never looked back in her career debut, winning a six-furlong maiden special weight race in a sharp 1:10.60 at Remington on Sept. 11. ◗ Bling It On Baby could use similar front-running tactics in the Gaylord, with Beau’s Angel perhaps her main pace rival. “She’s real well-minded,” Caldwell said of Bling It On Baby. “She doesn’t have to be on the lead; she’s pretty quick early. In her works, she’s galloping out like 6 1/2 [furlongs] will not be a problem.” ◗ Bling It On Baby has been flattered since her 8 3/4-length debut win last out, with the runner-up from the race and the fifth-place finisher both returning to win maiden special weight races at Remington. ◗ She’s worked well since her debut, breezing five furlongs in a bullet 58.40 seconds Oct. 10. ◗ Jareth Loveberry has the mount for Caldwell, who owns the horse with Mojo Racing Partners. Tapalite (Last 3 Beyers: 53-60-54) ◗ She is a maiden facing winners but faced good horses last time. Tapalite was fifth in an Ellis Park maiden special weight race Aug. 22 won by Paige, who in her next start won an allowance at Churchill Downs and went on to run third in the Grade 1 Alcibiades at Keeneland. ◗ Tapalite is bred for stakes success as a half-sister to Cuvee, who earned $402,044, as well as Will He Shine, a Grade 2 winner of $346,041. Stratagem (Last 3 Beyers: 39-49-50) ◗ She won the Wyoming Thoroughbred Futurity over males July 20 and backed up the performance with a runner-up finish in the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity, again against males, at Arapahoe Park in August. Donna’s Royal Slot (Last 3 Beyers: 54-56-53) ◗ She won a Remington allowance last out over two horses who returned to win stakes, one at Remington and the other at Zia Park.
