Blind Luck targets Delaware Oaks

Steve Andersen|Jun 14, 2010

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Kentucky Oaks winner Blind Luck is likely to make her next start in the $250,000 Delaware Oaks at Delaware Park on July 10, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said Sunday.

Hollendorfer said the timing of the Delaware Oaks is favorable as a prep for the $500,000 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 21.

"We want to point for that if we can," Hollendorfer said. "Nothing is set in stone."

Second in the Grade 2 Hollywood Oaks on June 6, her first start since the Kentucky Oaks, Blind Luck worked a half-mile in 47.60 seconds Sunday at Hollywood Park.

Western Mood points to stakes

Hollendorfer expects to have a starter in the $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship for 2-year-olds on July 5 in Western Mood, who scored a stylish win in a five-furlong maiden race Saturday.

Making his career debut, Western Mood ($7.40) closed from seventh in the final quarter-mile to win by 1 3/4 lengths over 5-2 favorite American Wildcat, finishing in 58.02 seconds.

"We've always thought he'd be a decent colt," Hollendorfer said.

The Grade 3 Juvenile Championship is the championship race for 2-year-olds at the meeting and is run over six furlongs.

Purse redistributed after positive

The purse for a five-furlong maiden claimer at Santa Anita on April 16 has been ordered redistributed after a post-race test revealed that race winner Stormy Linda tested in excess of the permitted level of Clenbuterol, a bronchial dilator. The decision was announced by Hollywood Park stewards Scott Chaney, Kim Sawyer, and Tom Ward on Saturday.

Stormy Linda earned $10,800, which was ordered redistributed from owner Eagle Oak Ranch ($8,715), trainer Brian Koriner ($1,080), and jockey Martin Pedroza ($1,005). The purse has been redistributed to the original second- through sixth-place finishers - Dos Viente, Misty Miss Joanna, Movie Duty, Ghost Shadow, and Silent Screen Star.

Dos Viente won a $25,000 maiden claiming race at Hollywood Park on May 29. With the purse redistribution, the 3-year-old has now been credited with two wins in five starts.

Clenbuterol is used to clear the throats of horses with breathing problems.

* Hollywood Park struggled Sunday to draw entries for Wednesday's card, attracting 53 horses for eight races. The draw for Thursday's program was postponed until Tuesday because of the low entries. Entries for both Thursday and Friday were scheduled to be taken Tuesday.
