Blameless Ghost has breeding to get the distance at a fair price

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Blameless Ghost is exiting a much improved run in her second try off a claim and should be competitive at a fair price in Friday’s featured eighth race at Woodbine.

Blameless Ghost won her second straight race with a $40,000 claiming tag over nonwinners-of-two opposition July 6, when she was claimed from trainer Mark Casse by trainer Peter Berringer for owner Debra Ehrat.

Berringer ran Blameless Ghost back in an Aug. 24 sprint on the main turf, in which she finished a non-threatening fourth after a wide trip. She stretched out to 7 1/2 furlongs around two turns on the inner turf Sept. 12 and parlayed an inside stalking trip into a close second while earning a 76 Beyer Speed Figure under Eswan Flores.

Friday, Blameless Ghost lines up against seven other fillies and mares in another nonwinners-of-three scheduled for the inner turf. The 1 1/16-mile distance will be farther than she’s ever gone, but the daughter of stamina sire Ghostzapper is certainly bred for the task at hand.

Go Giffen is coming off a breakout performance over nonwinners-of-two stock, which was her second win in a row under leading rider Sahin Civaci. In her first inner turf excursion Sept. 13, she got away slowly before closing outside from seventh to win going away with a 78 Beyer.

Since the beginning of 2023, Go Giffen’s trainer, Paul Buttigieg, has a 20 percent strike rate with horses exiting a victory, with a positive return on investment.

Apprentice Austin Adams has been gaining momentum and gets his second career mount for trainer Kevin Attard on the reluctant Silent Sky after winning on his first one for Attard.

After beating nonwinners-of-two foes in her seasonal bow on the Tapeta, Silent Sky has been a beaten favorite in all three of her starts at this level on the inner turf. The best of those races was a second to front-running Swinging Mandy over a course labeled good Aug. 18. She could only manage fourth behind Blameless Ghost after a three-wide trip until the far turn most recently.

Fortyfiveseventy, Foxy Diva, and Cozy Curlin Kitten also competed in the aforementioned Sept. 12 race.

Owned and trained by Barbara Minshall, Fortyfiveseventy rallied outside to record her second straight third-place finish Sept. 12 and has been improving since a slow start to her season. Last year, she finished third in the Woodbine Oaks, fourth in the Grade 3 Selene, and fifth in the Bison City Stakes.

Foxy Diva broke slowly Sept. 12 before racing in seventh throughout. She won over $25,000 nonwinners-of-two claimers in her penultimate start while beating current rival Dreams and Schemes, who subsequently defeated males at the $25,000 non-two level in another inner turf tilt.

Rounding out the eighth-race field is Our Flag Flying, who ended a drought last out when beating nonwinners-of-two types on the Tapeta.
