Blame filly, She Is Romantic, makes debut in turf sprint

She Is Romantic, bought for $525,000 in April, will have her career debut in a maiden race for 2-year-old fillies at five furlongs on turf in the first race at Del Mar on Friday.

An inside post is just fine with trainer Peter Eurton.

“If I drew the one hole on dirt, I’d be really upset,” he said. “On turf, I’m not upset. You don’t get the kickback. You let them run their race.”

Owned by Lee and Susan Searing’s CRK Stable, She Is Romantic has worked quickly at times for her first start. Antonio Fresu has worked the filly and has the mount on Friday. She Is Romantic is by Blame.

“I believe she can run a bit,” Eurton said. “I want to get a good experience.

“My intention isn’t to put her on the lead. Don’t overly urge her, but don’t take anything away.”

The maiden race drew 12 and will be limited to eight starters.

Mysticism, a first-time starter by War Front, drew the outside post for trainer Richard Mandella. Mysticism has worked quickly for her debut. She is the first foal to race out of Clairvoyance, a $450,000 yearling purchase in 2016 who won once in three starts – in her debut in a maiden race on turf at Monmouth Park in 2019.
