Black Hills captures San Juan for No. 4 in a row

Black Hills ran his winning streak to four races on Sunday, rallying from off the pace to capture the $100,000 San Juan Commissioners Handicap at SunRay Park. Defending San Juan champ and tepid 3-1 favorite Mr Charlypotatoes settled for second, followed by Lemon Custard.

Ridden by Catalino Martinez and trained Bart Hone, Black Hills ($13.80) earned his biggest career victory in the closing-day feature. Earlier this year he won for a $15,000 claiming tag at Sunland Park and had two local conditioned claiming victories. A 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Judge T. C., Black Hills has now won 5 of 13 starts, and Sunday's payday of $60,000 increased his career bankroll to more than $160,000. He covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:51.68 over a fast track.
