Billygets Arrested enters allowance feature off big Beyer
Was it the wet, sealed track or the addition of blinkers that enabled the 3-year-old filly Billygets Arrested to dramatically improve the last time she raced? More importantly for bettors, did that performance signify a breakthrough or does it make her a “bounce” candidate in Tuesday’s $45,000 allowance feature at Parx Racing?
Billygets Arrested is among nine fillies and mares seeking to clear their first allowance condition going a flat mile on the main rack in Tuesday’s eighth race.
On July 15, Billygets Arrested, racing on a wet track for the second time in her seven-race career and equipped with blinkers for the first time, missed by a nose. The big news, however, was the 92 Beyer Speed Figure she earned. That number was 45 points higher than she recorded in her previous start and an 18-point improvement from her previous career high earned three starts ago in a race in which she finished first but was disqualified for being unable to maintain a straight course in the stretch.
If Billygets Arrested runs back to a figure anywhere close to 92, she will romp competing at a level where the par is 78. But if she regresses to a figure somewhere in the mid-70s, she becomes vulnerable at a short price.
The most viable option to Billygets Arrested may be the 6-year-old mare who will break next to her in post 2, Flynnie. She finished nine lengths behind Billygets Arrested last month, but as her 0-for-7 record on wet tracks suggests, Flynnie may simply hate mud.
Flynnie makes just her second start against open company in a first-level allowance. Her previous two races were good performances in second-level allowances restricted to Pennsylvania-breds, producing Beyers of 84 and 82 that are above par for Tuesday’s class level.
Race 8
KEY CONTENDERS
Billygets Arrested (Last 3 Beyers: 92-47-74)
Difficult to gauge what to expect following a huge Beyer she earned last time. The two horses who have run since the fast July 15 allowance dropped in class, but produced weak Beyers of 55 and 27 next time out. Billygets Arrested is well-drawn on the rail and should be prominently placed early.
Flynnie (Last 3 Beyers: 76-84-82)
Beaten favorite in the same fast race Billygets Arrested exits, but had an excuse for that flop, racing on a wet track where she is 0 for 7 lifetime. Previous two races stamp her as a serious contender in this spot.
Manda Moo (Last 3 Beyers: 79-63-75)
Beaten nearly six lengths by Billygets Arrested two starts ago, then freshened after surrendering a three-length lead in the final furlong at same distance and level as Tuesday’s race two months ago. Reunited with jockey Maria Remedio, who guided her to an 18 ¼-length romp going a mile in May.
Missredhead (Last 3 Beyers: 51-74-74)
In 25 career starts locally, this 5-year-old mare, who is the uncoupled stablemate of Manda Moo, has 11 seconds and thirds compared with just 3 wins, so she frequently settles for small slices of the purse. The closest she has come in five starts at this level this year is 4 ¾ lengths behind the winner.
