Big maiden win sends Flat Precious to stakes

Trainer J.R. Caldwell said that Flat Precious, who was a 5 1/4-length maiden special weight winner Sunday at Lone Star, will be pointed to the $100,000 fillies division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity on July 14 at Lone Star.

She will start as one of the top choices off a Beyer Speed Figure of 65. Flat Precious is a daughter of Flat Out who races for Keene Thoroughbreds. She was the fifth 2-year-old winner of the Lone Star meet for Caldwell.

Caldwell won two other races on the Sunday card at Lone Star, including with millionaire Rise Up for the Lone Star Park Racing Club.

◗ Ruidoso Downs will put on trials from Friday through Sunday for two of its most prestigious Quarter Horses stakes, the $750,000 Rainbow Derby and $1 million Rainbow Futurity.

There will be 26 trials for the Rainbow Futurity, with 13 each on Friday and Saturday. The finale is July 21.

There are 10 trials for the Rainbow Derby. The finale is July 20.

◗ Racehorses nearing retirement can be paraded before prospective buyers during the annual Roses to Ribbons Old Fashioned Horse Fair on July 13 at Lone Star Park. The event is held in the paddock area and starts at 10 a.m. Horses are showcased in the paddock, and their owners can enter into private transactions with interested buyers.
