Big Macher, unraced since 2015, plans July comeback at Del Mar

ARCADIA, Calif. - Big Macher, a five-time stakes winner who has not raced since November 2015 because of injury, is being prepared for a comeback this summer.
Big Macher worked a half-mile at Santa Anita on Saturday in 51.80 seconds, his second recorded work this year.
“He’s coming back very nicely,” trainer Richard Baltas said. “He had a ligament issue and it wasn’t bad. I gave him plenty of time. Hopefully, we can have him ready for Del Mar.”
The Del Mar summer meeting begins July 19.
Big Macher has not raced since finishing seventh in the Cary Grant Stakes at Del Mar in November 2015. He was 10th in the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Keeneland.
Claimed for $20,000 from a maiden race at Del Mar in July 2013, Big Macher has won 7 of 19 starts and has earned $684,288. His most prestigious win was the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar in 2014.
A 7-year-old gelding, Big Macher races for Tom Mansor and Tachycardia Stables.
