Big Macher injured in Saturday work

ARCADIA, Calif. -- Big Macher, who has emerged as a leading sprinter in California this year, worked five furlongs in 59.80 seconds at Santa Anita on Saturday, but was vanned off following the workout with concern over his right foreleg.
Trainer Richard Baltas said that Big Macher partially dislodged his right front shoe in the work and that the 4-year-old gelding was resting in his stall.
“It’s nothing obvious,” Baltas said. “He’s off in his right front. The shoe was tweaked in the work.”
Baltas said early Saturday afternoon that no injury had surfaced.
“Something could show up in the next day or two,” he said.
Big Macher won the California Cup Sprint for state-breds in January and the Grade 2 Potrero Grande Stakes over 6 1-2 furlongs on April 5. In between, he was second in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes on March 5.
Trained by Richard Baltas for Tom Mansor and Tachycardia Stables, Big Macher was a candidate for the $100,000 Los Angeles Stakes over six furlongs on May 26. Big Macher has won 4 of 10 starts and earned $316,428.
Also working Saturday were Fury Kapcori, the winner of the Grade 3 Precisionist Stakes on May 3; Top Kisser, the winner of the Spring Fever Stakes on April 26; Tribal Spy, who has won two turf sprints for females; Quick Casablanca, the winner of the Grade 3 Last Tycoon Stakes on April 25; and Spellbound, who won the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes in January.
Fury Kapcori went a half-mile in 47.20 seconds. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Fury Kapcori is unbeaten in four starts this year at Santa Anita. He is a leading candidate for the $200,000 Californian Stakes over 1 1/8 miles on May 31, a prep for the $500,000 Gold Cup at Santa Anita on June 28.
The Californian and Gold Cup at Santa Anita were previously run at Hollywood Park, which closed in December. The Gold Cup at Santa Anita is the former Hollywood Gold Cup.
Top Kisser, also trained by Hollendorfer, worked a half-mile in 1:02.20. Hollendorfer has mentioned the $200,000 Great Lady M Stakes for fillies and mares over 6 1/2 furlongs at Los Alamitos on July 12 as a goal for Top Kisser.
Spellbound worked seven furlongs in 1:28. Trained by Richard Mandella, Spellbound was fourth in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes for fillies and mares on March 15. She could start in the $100,000 Adoration Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/16 miles on May 18.
Quick Casablanca worked five furlongs on turf in 1:02. The Chilean-bred will make his next start in the $200,000 Charles Whittingham Stakes over 1 1/4 miles on turf on May 24, trainer Ron McAnally said on Friday.
Tribal Spy worked five furlongs on turf in 1:02.80. Trained by Adam Kitchingman may run in the $75,000 Mizdirection Stakes on the hillside turf course on May 25. Tribal Spy won the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes on April 12.
