Big Dashing Perry heads finalists for All American Derby
Big Dashing Perry, the winner of the 2013 Firecracker Futurity at Delta Downs, is the fastest qualifier for the $1,920,887 All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs on Aug. 31 following 12 time trials on Saturday.
Big Dashing Perry ran 440 yards in 21.184 seconds to win Saturday’s first trial under jockey G.R. Carter Jr. A Louisiana-bred gelding by Mr Jess Perry, Big Dashing Perry was the first of five trial race winners to qualify for the final.
Later in the day, Kates Dynasty, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2013, won the ninth division in 21.261 seconds, for the second-fastest time. Houdini, who won the Rainbow Derby last month, has the third-fastest time of 21.263 seconds after winning the eighth race.
Trial winners J Bar and Too Flash For You are among the 10 finalists. The other qualifiers are Down Side Magician, Five Bar Cartel, Mon Ti Dash, Potenzza, and The Ultimate Eagle.
Five Bar Cartel won the Ed Burke Million Futurity at Los Alamitos in June 2013.
Among the horses who did not qualify was Handsome Jack Flash, who won the 2013 All American Futurity. He won the third division in 21.59 seconds. The slowest qualifying time was the 21.397 clocking set by Mon Ti Dash.
