Big Cazanova will target graded stakes
DEL MAR, Calif. – Big Cazanova set his second track record of the season with a runaway allowance victory going 1 1/8 miles Thursday and now will get a shot in graded stakes company, trainer Peter Miller said Friday.
“I think we did the right thing not running in the Pacific Classic,” Miller said. “Going forward, the most likely spot is the Awesome Again, but we’ll look at races out of town, too. He came back well from the race. Two track records in one meet – not bad.”
Big Cazanova set a track record for one mile July 26. He has won three of his last four starts.
** Owners David Frankham and Brian Carmody were fined $1,000 by Del Mar’s stewards Thursday as a result of the scratch of their horse Smogcutter on July 31. The owners were protesting a perceived lack of action by the racing board regarding the A.C. Avila-trained Masochistic, who ran poorly in his debut but is unbeaten since, including a victory in that July 31 race.
