HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Bien Nicole, a specialist on turf with four stakes wins on that surface last year, proved to be as effective back on dirt Saturday when she drove to a 1 1/4-length win over Red n'Gold in the Grade 3, $200,000 Oaklawn Breeders' Cup.

It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to 2-5 favorite Mandy's Gold.

Bien Nicole ($18) raced in third early in the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares, while Mandy's Gold set fractions of 24.20 seconds for the opening quarter and 48.60 for the half with Red n'Gold in close pursuit. Bien Nicole launched her bid past the half-mile pole and went on to cover the distance over the distance in 1:44.16.

Don Pettinger rode the winner for trainer Donnie Von Hemel.

Bien Nicole earned $120,000 for the the win, which improved her record to nine wins from her 17 starts for earnings of $504,080. She races for her breeders, John and Kristine Richter.

* Leading trainer Cole Norman won the 1,000th race of his career Saturday when Mystic Night ($5.80) won the ninth race. The victory was the fifth straight for Mystic Night.
