BH Lisas Boy scores in Robert Boniface Stakes
BH Lisas Boy confirmed his status as the leading older Quarter Horse in the nation with his third consecutive stakes win in Sunday’s $125,000 Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Championship at 440 yards.
The win is expected to give BH Lisas Boy the role of favorite for the $600,000 Champion of Champions on Dec. 14 at Los Alamitos, a race that plays an important role in year-end voting.
BH Lisas Boy earned an automatic berth to the Champion of Champions with the victory Sunday.
The favorite, BH Lisas Boy ran 440 yards in 21.40 seconds, overcoming a bumping incident at the start with eventual runner-up Tarzanito. Ridden by 18-year-old Oscar Andrade Jr., BH Lisas Boy ($7) finished a neck in front of 9-1 Tarzanito, the champion aged stallion of 2018.
Katies Easy Moves, who holds a berth to the Champion of Champions for winning the Vessels Maturity in July, finished third, beaten a nose for second.
BH Lisas Boy races for Bill Hoburg, who bred, owns, and trains the 7-year-old gelding who has won 23 of 42 starts and earned $921,053. BH Lisas Boy was third by a neck in the 2018 Champion of Champions.
This year, BH Lisas Boy was beaten in his first three starts before the recent stakes wins. In August, BH Lisas Boy won the $40,603 California Challenge Championship, followed by a win in the $100,000 Go Man Go Handicap at 400 yards.
