BH Lisas Boy faces familiar challengers in Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Championship
BH Lisas Boy will have a familiar group of rivals in Sunday’s $125,000 Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Championship for older Quarter Horses at 440 yards.
BH Lisas Boy won the California Challenge Championship in August and the Go Man Go Handicap on Sept. 1 in consecutive starts. The second- through sixth-place finishers in the Go Man Go Handicap are part of the Los Alamitos Championship field – Katies Easy Moves, He Looks Hot, Tarzanito, Jesstacartel, and Hotstepper.
All have credentials to win on Sunday. Katies Easy Moves won the Vessels Maturity in July, earning a berth to the Champion of Champions. He Looks Hot won the 2018 Los Alamito Championship, while Tarzanito won the 2018 Go Man Go Handicap.
Jesstacartel and Hotstepper won two of the leading derbies last year. Hotstepper won the All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs in September, while Jesstcartel won the Los Alamitos Super Derby last November.
The winner of the Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Championship receives a fees-paid berth to the $600,000 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos on Dec. 14.
Jesstacartel and BH Lisas Boy were second and third in the Champion of Champions last December behind Bodacious Eagle, who has since been retired.
BH Lisas Boy races for Bill Hoburg, who bred, owns and trains the 7-year-old gelding, who has won 22 of 41 starts and earned $858,553. This year, BH Lisas Boy was beaten in his first three starts before the recent stakes wins.
The $40,603 California Challenge Championship was run at 440 yards, while the $100,000 Go Man Go Handicap was run at 400 yards.
