Beyers give Sav the edge in Lady Angela
ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Sav possesses the highest Beyer Speed Figures in Friday’s $100,000 Lady Angela Stakes at Woodbine and should be favored in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies.
Trained by Ricky Griffith, Sav finished second in the Shady Well here last summer before going to the sidelines for nine months. She finished second with a 78 Beyer when she returned from the bench May 12. Most recently, on June 1, she beat nonwinners-of-two Ontario-sired allowance opposition with a 76 Beyer in a 5 1/2-furlong sprint, which is the longest she has raced.
Lady Angela rival Ciuri won her first two outings in front-running style this spring. She was pressured up front before weakening to third in a nonwinners-of-three Ontario-sired allowance three weeks ago.
Brookies Bear is coming off a belated third behind H Is Just a Number and Sav. She shouldn’t mind the stretchout in distance from that 5 1/2-furlong race.
Rounding out the five-horse field are Miss Ariel and Pink Scribbles.
Post time for the first race Friday has been pushed back to 3:30 p.m., and the Lady Angela goes as the third race.
