Beulah Park track report

GROVE CITY, Ohio - Seventh Wish, the subject of much controversy and a stewards' ruling here when she ran misidentified as Comic Grey last November, won while making her first start since the incident at Beulah Park on Tuesday afternoon, capturing a $5,000 maiden claiming race by two lengths.

Trainer Joe Martin was fined $500 and the purse of the November race was redistributed in a ruling issued by Beulah Park stewards in February when it was ruled Martin had inadvertently saddled Seventh Wish instead of Comic Grey here when Seventh Wish finished second in a maiden claiming race Nov. 3.

Martin had purchased both Comic Grey and Seventh Wish from their previous owner, and the horses' tattoo numbers were the same except for the last digit. Complicating matters was that the last digit in Seventh Wish's tattoo was blurred. Martin had also started Seventh Wish as Comic Grey in two previous starts last fall, once at Canterbury and once at Mountaineer.

The mistake was caught in November by the identifier at Hoosier Park when Seventh Wish was once again led to the paddock to start as Comic Grey, necessitating a late scratch and leading to an investigation.
