Beulah: Bakers Haulover draws off in Ohio Freshman

John McDulin|Nov 19, 2011

GROVE CITY, Ohio - Bakers Haulover dueled from the outside early in a nine-horse field before drawing off in upper stretch to win the $55,000 Ohio Freshman at Beulah Park on Saturday. Trained by Doug Cowans, the 2-year-old Ohio-accredited gelding held clear to win by four lengths under jockey Perry Ouzts over a fast track.

Uncle Virgil, part of a three-horse entry that was favored at 1-5, failed to respond for jockey Luis Martinez but still finished second, 5 1/4 lengths in front of stablemate I'm Kiddin, a filly.

I'm Kiddin received an extra $5,000 as the highest finishing filly in the field.

Bakers Haulover ran the six furlongs in 1.13.92 and returned $11.40 as the second choice in the wagering.
