Bettys Bambino will aim at San Simeon

ARCADIA, Calif.- Bettys Bambino will stay in turf sprints at Santa Anita after winning his fourth consecutive race in Saturday’s $100,750 Sensational Star Stakes for California-breds.
Trainer Peter Eurton has plans to try Bettys Bambino in one-turn turf races at seven furlongs and a mile later this year, but said on Sunday that the gelding’s next race is likely to be the $100,000 San Simeon Stakes at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course on April 19.
“That’s probably where we’ll go,” Eurton said. “I don’t think we’ll travel with him yet.”
In the Sensational Star, Bettys Bambino closed from third to win by a length over Ambitious Brew, the winner of 2014 Sensational Star. Bettys Bambino’s current winning streak consists entirely of races on the hillside turf course – an allowance race in September, an optional claimer in October, and the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes on Dec. 28. Jockey Martin Garcia has been aboard for the four wins.
In his career, Bettys Bambino, 5, has won 6 of 10 starts and earned $318,036. All the starts have come in the last year. Bettys Bambino won his career debut on Feb. 28, 2014. The gelding races for Sharon Alesia, Bran Jan Stable and Ciaglia Racing.
Eurton has won three stakes at the meeting, leaving him a tie for third in the standings in that category. Eurton has hopes to add to that total on March 7 when Kobe’s Back starts in the $250,000 San Carlos Stakes at seven furlongs and She’s a Big Winner in the $75,000 China Doll Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at a mile on turf.
She’s a Big Winner won the Sweet Life Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on the hillside turf course on Feb. 14.
