Beth's Dream looks to extend streak; mandatory payout in Rainbow 6

Beth’s Dream will be looking to extend her win streak to four in a row Saturday when she meets Bluefield in the $100,000 Sheer Drama Handicap, going seven furlongs on the Gulfstream Park dirt.
The horses are co-highweighted at 125 pounds in the race for fillies and mares that shares a card with the $75,000 Frolic’s Revenge.
There also is a mandatory payout in the Rainbow 6 jackpot set for Saturday, and officials project the pool could reach $2 million. The 20-cent bet will run on races 6-11.
The sequence includes the Sheer Drama, which is expected to produce starters for the Princess Rooney at Gulfstream. Beth’s Dream has long been targeted for that race and is making a rare appearance at a distance less than a mile in the Sheer Drama.

“This is the first time [going] seven furlongs,” said Victor Barboza Jr., who trains Beth’s Dream for Virginia Gamble. “She won for me going six and a half furlongs in a maiden race. That’s a year and a half ago.
“Now with this group, there’s good mares in the race, but I have a lot of confidence in my mare. The [post] position four I like, in the middle of the group. The pace in the race should not be very fast. I think she’s running from second. It’s a good position with the mare.”
Beth’s Dream has used her natural speed to win all three of her starts this year, all at a mile at Gulfstream. She’s earned Beyer Speed Figures in the 90s for each effort, and the numbers are the best collection of recent Beyers in the Sheer Drama.
Beth’s Dream started her streak in March. She was given some time off last year and has returned in top form for Barboza.
“She’s very ready for the stakes,” he said of the Sheer Drama. “I think she needed the rest last year. After trips to Monmouth, Laurel, and Delaware, she came back to my barn and I thought she was very tired. We moved her to the farm for three, four months and she came back in the barn and her attitude has been very positive. This year, she’s run three times and run three very good races.”
Emisael Jaramillo has the mount on Beth’s Dream, who is 7 for 9 on the dirt at Gulfstream.
Bluefield is looking for her third straight win. She’s accounted for a May allowance and the Musical Romance in June, both at Gulfstream. The Musical Romance was run over 6 1/2 furlongs, and she darted home by 3 1/2 lengths. Drayden Van Dyke retains the mount from post 8.
Saffie Joseph Jr. trains Bluefield for her co-breeder, Edward Seltzer.
◗ The Frolic’s Revenge is for fillies and mares at a mile and 70 yards on Tapeta. Swoonatra and Rosie’s Halo were supplemented to the race for which Jan’s Girl is listed as the 122 highweight. The overnight handicap is slated as the fifth race Saturday.
