Betfair Hollywood: DRF Plus handicapping report for November 9, 2013

DRF Staff|Nov 08, 2013

Race 1

Spot Play

MALIBU KNIGHT (#3, 3-1) comes with question marks to be sure (was gone a year before a dull run on DMR’s main track Aug. 18; gone again since). However, there’s cause for optimism. First, while he drops, it’s only a one-level drop, hardly a fire-sale move. Also, he moves back to turf, his best game (only 2 wins came on turf including his only try here, which also came at this trip). While he’s been gone another 3 months this layoff is shorter than a couple others and he’s fired fresh before. And it may be telling that Bejarano sees fit to take do the steering. -Michael Hammersly

Race 2

Spot Play

BAJAN (#5, 5-2) won a stakes last out with the same trip she is likely for here. Behind the speed, in front of the deep closers, she gets first run. PERCHED (#4, 6-1) is a maiden that can roll late and complete the exacta. -Brad Free

Race 3

Spot Play

ONE TIME ONLY (#6, 8-5) is sitting on a maiden win third time out. She was hounded through a fast pace last time, shook off her foe, and got collared. Set for her best. -Brad Free

Race 6

Spot Play

No knocks on favorites PRAY HARD and PUBLIC POLICY, but first-timer HYE I’M JACK (#7, 8-1) has trained like the real deal. A gate work early this week was the bullet. -Brad Free

Spot Play

HYE I’M JACK (#7, 8-1) is a pricey auction buy relative to sire Cowboy Cal’s published stud fee. Has solid work pattern overall, but especially interested in way he’s picked it up in two of last three drills, including the recent bullet half from gate upon return to the Hollywood synthetic. - Marcus Hersh

Race 8

Vulnerable Favorite

Winning a $16,000 starter allowance is one thing, winning a N2X allowance is another. OLYMPIC BLUE (#8, 3-1) wins way more than his share (7-for-16), but this jump to a second-level allowance seems mighty ambitious at a short price.- Brad Free
