Spot PlayEXOTIC SLEW (#1, 8-1) may be ready to strike at a price. He had excuses in his last 3 duds – broke slowly, rushed up and dueled and paid the price down the hill at SA Nov. 3, was away slowly and very wide on dirt (not his favorite footing) there Oct. 12 and before that routed on turf at DMR Aug. 28 (he’s better sprinting). This is the game he wants, he’s got ample tactical speed, has won over this course at this trip and there’s no panicky drop by Moger Jr. -Michael Hammersly
Spot PlayMR. ORNERY (#2, morning line 10-1) has two seconds & a close, troubled fourth in three starts under these conditions (BHP, 6fs turf, Cal-bred N1X). Just drawing a line through last-start, two-turn SA comeback. Four works since. - Marcus Hersh
Vulnerable FavoriteHabitual underachiever FIELD REPORT (#5, 2-1) benefited by a slow pace last time and enters with the highest speed figures. But he finishes second more often than not, and meets more speed here. -Brad Free

Spot PlaySecond-time starter BROWSING (#8, 5-1) is worth a wager. Her debut was terrific. She clipped heels and stumbled, dropped far off the pace, sliced through the field on the turn, finished with run, and galloped out alongside the winner. -Brad Free

Spot PlayLUST FOR LIFE (#8, 15-1) is only a goofy stab. Maidens trained by Richard Baltas often outrun their odds; Baltas has won with 4 of 15 first-time starters the past 14 months. All four winners were big prices ($40.60, $53.80, $24.40 and $25.20). -Brad Free
