Betfair Hollywood Park
Betfair Hollywood: Closer Looks for December 22, 2013
Race 1
China Girl Lover
Returned off the long layoff to post a new Beyer speed figure Top racing on a synthetic surface; was outrun going longer in the turf debut chasing the winner and runner-up finishers; they Beyered 82-75 in next-out SA-MSW and optional-claiming wins; 26%-winning sprint-to-route trainer adds to the appeal noting his BHP-synthetic bullet workout for this turf attempt.
Rader the Rat
Not a good sign that his 1st race off the claim represents a career-low Beyer which coincided with front wraps coming on for the 1st time; is bred both sides for distance he stretches out beyond 6.5F for the 1st time today; his 1-for-18 sprint-to-route trainer since 2012 does not help the confidence level that a much-needed wakeup call is on the way here.
Wicked Finance
Deep closer needs a pace meltdown and well-timed ride to graduate; the 2-back synthetic-surface exacta finish represents a field-best Beyer then followed it up with a near-miss finish in his grass debut; the extra half furlong here plays into his favor.
Super Sam
Sire is 26-for-273 with 1st-turf starters; is out of an unraced dam; 1 of 2 foals to race on grass is a turf winner (2-for-17 Silber Stern 55K green); he is the only runner without any grass experience in the field; worked a synthetic-surface bullet for this seeking a massive-2nd-time out improvement.
Aqua Revelation
Returned off the more than 1-year layoff to race right on the lead hanging on well to earn the 1st exacta finish of his career; the added distance here is the main issue but should be a major pace presence and a huge factor 2nd time off the bench; the 3-back winner made it 3 in a row taking DEL-PRX-optional-claiming wins in next pair (87-81 Beyers).
Apostle Paul
Saved his career-best Beyer for latest 2nd time off the bench when unable to defeat Wicked Finance on synthetic; heads back to grass the surface of his off-the-board finish 2-back vs. the runner-up finisher who Beyered 80 in his next-out BHP-MSW win; have him ranked a notch below the top contenders.
Maxx the Giant
Is best when he breaks well which why the 2-back loss looks better when off slowly from the gate but rallied well vs. the runner-up finisher who took his next 2 starts both 78 Beyers taking SA-MSW and optional-claiming company victories.
Citron Kid
Has yet to race back to his career-debut Beyer Top on BHP grass at shorter; exits a dull effort when outrun at long odds racing on today's turf course; 41 days idle but posted a steady worktab for a 10%-winning fresh trainer; will be taking a wait and see approach. - Art Gropper
Race 2
Miracle Merger
Even third to the razor sharp Julio's Gold October 26 makes her a contender, but the Freespool mare's work tab is suspect. She shows only one slow drill since her last, a half mile in :50 2/5 December 15. Trainer also poor with runners returning in this time frame (1-for-19, $0.40 ROI).
Sky Angel
Speed for a half mile before stopping in a turf miler at Golden Gate November 10 and now returns to Southern California for the first time since 2011. The Sky Mesa mare's best form is in the rear view mirror as she moves to the Alexis Barba barn. Only plus is Barba's 3-for-11 record moving from turf to synthetic.
Willetta
Good second at this level at Del Mar, but has fizzled in two subsequent outings. May have needed her last, but her trainer is having a poor year (1-for-34) and a lack of speed is tough to overcome on Cushion Track.
Warren's Assassin
Stalked the pace, but finished 13 lengths behind a similar field December 6. Several angles on display for a possible rebound. The two times Rafael Bejarano rode her, she finished first and second, respectively. Bejarano is also 26 per cent for this barn, with a $2.82 ROI. Third, she came back with a strong :47 2/5 drill December 17.
Woodlandsway (GB)
Hasn't hit the board in five U. S. starts, but takes a significant class drop for Adam Kitchingman, who took the English bred for $25,000 one back. Blinkers come off, but her works remain slow.
Smil'n From Above
With her record of 1-for-31, she's difficult to endorse on the front end, but the 5-year-old has finished in the money 18 times. She's continued that pattern this year, going 0-for-16, with one second and nine thirds. Distance doesn't seem to matter, but she is partial to synthetic tracks.
Valarta
Didn't beat much last time, but the Silver Train filly broke her maiden in her first try on Cushion Track. She's likely at the proper level and there are no world beaters in the lineup. Up-close style is a plus. Deserves consideration.
Hugger of Trees
Golden Gate shipper takes a steep class plunge from $40,000 starter allowance to $16,000 non-winners of two lifetime. She did graduate for $20,000, so the drop is understandable. Well situated on the outside and gets an underrated rider in Alex Bisono. - Mike Superstein
Race 3
Love Tale (GB)
This filly looks like a solid fit at this level of competition and she is making her first start after claim for a barn that is capable of moving one forward; note that she didn't finish all that far behind one of today's key rivals in her latest outing.
Backintheacademy
Not only does her best effort appear to be short of the mark of what it will take to get the job done in this spot, but she hasn't been anywhere near her best in her two starts over turf prior to this; she has the look of an outsider.
Romantic Wish (GB)
She deserves a lot of credit for getting the job done at just over 100-1 going six furlongs over this turf course in her latest outing, but that level of performance hasn't been the norm for her, and it might not be a bad idea to make her prove that she can reproduce that effort in this spot; runner-up from latest returned to win next out here on 11/24 going 6f over turf vs. N1X alw. rivals with a 73 Beyer.
Tanquerray
This filly has developed a nice level of consistency to her game since moving into this barn and she beat a couple of today's rivals in her most recent start; as long as she gets an honest early pace to work off of, she figures to be making some noise through the lane.
Prettypriceygirl
Like the idea of this filly getting back over turf while making her second start back from a layoff and her best effort places for squarely in the mix against these; feel that she deserves a spot on the long list of contenders in this event.
English Rhythm
This filly has a fine pedigree for turf and she's finished 1-2-3 in to 11 of 13 turf starts; it is worth noting that she's making her first start for a new barn after a claim, but she's clearly capable of making her presence felt in here on her best day.
Highly Rated
She might have to be careful to avoid an early pace dispute but she commands plenty of respect while making her first start after a claim for the Hollendorfer barn, and Bejarano has won with 53 of 136 (39%) mounts for this barn in 2013.
Mary Contrary
Respect Mizzen Mast as a turf sire, and maybe this filly deserves another chance to see what she can do over turf, but there just isn't anything in her recent form to suggest that she can handle competition of this caliber.
Warren's Internet
For the most part, she's been a pretty consistent performer, but she is going to need to step up her game over what she's shown in her two turf attempts in order to threaten the top contenders in this spot; looking toward others. - Brian Pochman
Race 4
What a Journey
He's had his breaking issues and though he'll stretch out here he moves to a tough draw; gelding hasn't been close in any of his 5 starts and looks to have his work cut out for him today; while his last was an improvement from a figure standpoint, have to pass on him in this spot.
Silver Love
Drops in half in price after again failing to beat a runner home in his second career start; he did show a little bit of early foot with the move inside at 149-1 on the board in that one and maybe he builds off it here, but it's tough to make any type of case for him having a say in the outcome at what will be another huge price.
Boss of Me
Enters this fresh after being given some time off the turf try with winners; gelding has been ok against better on the green and his lone synthetic try earned a number that's better than most of these have run; given the class relief he looks like the one to beat.
Full's Kris S.
Showed some early interest before fading on the stretchout in his return from the freshening last time; maybe he's again close early, but this gelding has yet to get close to the number he earned sprinting first out at Del Mar and there's not a lot to suggest he'll take a big step forward in here; siding with others on the win end.
Slight Edge
Gelding wasn't bad in his return to synthetic footing 2 starts back and maybe it was just the outside slot that did him in last week; he does return quickly for this so maybe they feel he has more to offer and he doesn't look to catch a particularly tough bunch today; barn doesn't win too often and this guy has had his chances, but he's worth a look on the stretchout.
Wistfullee Mine
Came up empty late while dropped in for a tag for the first time 10 days ago; gelding has only run 4 times so he has a right to improve at any time, but he hasn't shown much stamina thus far and he'll have an added panel to deal with in here.
Pavement
He's beaten just a couple of runners home in his 4 races and boasts some ugly running lines; 6 year old has had his gate issues and his barn has won just one race this year; looms another huge price.
The River Grand
Showed good speed on the stretchout but had little left late when sent to post at 71-1 in his local debut; maybe the turn back helps him here, but he's got a lot of improving to do for a barn that has won just a few races this year; can't make a case for him.
Handsome Dennis
Goes first time for a tag while stretching out a panel for his third start back from the layoff; colt hasn't done much of late, but he has been facing significantly better and the numbers he's earned put him in the mix in this spot; can't count him out.
Captain Salt
Ships back into this circuit while being offered for a straight tag in his first spin over synthetic footing; gelding has worked pretty well here for a barn that boasts a pretty impressive record from a limited amount of starters this year; added trip may not prove ideal, but he's a contender.
Dickery Do
Adds shades for his return from the freshening off a pretty weak Santa Anita sprint; gelding ran ok from an outside draw in his last synthetic spin and maybe he moves forward in his return to this type of surface; price should be big. - Steve Grabowski
Race 5
Mia Isabel
Drops in price while switching surfaces after again tiring in the lane over the local sod; gray earned a career best number in victory the last time she stepped over the local main track, but she doesn't have much one turn experience and this trip may be a little too short for her; still, her better numbers stand out at this level so they'll need to hold her off to win.
Warren's Judy
Bejarano sticks as this gal moves a path off the fence after running out of ground at a slightly shorter trip; she gutted out the trip score at the level 2 back and her best try does put her in the exotics mix here, but don't know that she's good enough to beat some of these home.
Just After Sunset
Ships down here after running out of ground from the rail draw in his Golden Gate finale; she's had a drill to get acquainted with the local footing and does look to be a fit for this price; pace scenario does look to benefit her and the price should be ok.
Queen of the Hill
Goes first time for a new outfit while getting off the fence after finding himself in a wide spot against a bit better last time; her most recent score did come against limited winners and her normal effort falls short of contending for the top spot today; have to pass on her.
One Magical Girl
Beaten last out chalk at Golden Gate makes her local return on the move back to the level of her most recent score; she ran well here in the summer and she does have speed but there's other lick in here and she draws inside them which means she'll likely be pushed hard early; don't think she'll have enough left late to beat these home.
Lia Juliana
It's been a long time since she's seen the winner's circle but she did get within a length of the top one 2 starts back at this level; filly hasn't run fast enough of late to threaten the better gals in this one but her kick may allow her to get up for a minor share.
Jet Blue Girl
Fresh mare makes her first start since Del Mar where she got her nose down on the wire to beat better; she'll return for less than this outfit paid for her and they haven't had much recent luck with this type first time out; with a couple of solid local surface efforts under her belt she certainly has a right to get in the mix here.
Wink and Wish
Sophomore brings plenty of speed to the table while dropping a notch in price after again backing out of it late; she is a local winner but she'll tackle older for the initial time here and there is some other speed drawn to both her inside and out today.
Handful of Pearls
Steps up off the claim by an outfit that has saddled just one winner this year; filly worked well on upstate dirt for her local debut and her lick figures to be on display, but even if she does find a way to clear the other lick she doesn't appear fast enough to take these all the way.
Warrens China Doll
Hasn't been a serious threat in her last few starts and now she'll cut back to sprint; barn has won just once this year and this gal has hit the board just once over the local main track; looms another big price in this spot.
Boo Who Who
Turns back to sprint off another weak effort, this time on the drop back to today's level; both of her wins have come on dirt and came before this low percentage outfit took her 3 starts back; can't make a case for her contending regardless of price. - Steve Grabowski
Race 6
Lovely in Laguna
Blinker introduction recently helped her show a bit more in the way of prompting speed but it seems unlikely she can improved dramatically on this turnback if cramped by rail position; cannot endorse at this time.
Warren's My Queen
Today marks the mare's 35th attempt in these ranks and although she was compromised by a slow start and extreme outpost in the last run, she cannot be considered a serious player here; pass until further notice.
Nezi O's Gold
Exits a race where she was caught up in a lengthy speed duel; that could prove decent foundation for the turnback in distance today and yet she will fly under the betting radar for this assignment; can land a share.
Shandy
Makes the dramatic drop from special weights and exits a race which was definitely above average in quality; should make much more of an impact at this reduced level; consider if the price is right.
Rsweet Serendipity
Dueled with Nezi O's Gold last month and the pair of them finished among the missing; was a more effective runner 2 back when lurking right behind the main speed; needs proper touch from the apprentice in order to move forward.
Rich in Tradition
Raced evenly in the last run but was aided by swift early fractions that day; has failed repeatedly at this longer distance though and remains a tough take for the top spot this afternoon; minor spoils at best.
Red Red Door
Tries this level for only the second time and stayed within range until the final furlong in her last assignment when defeated by a repeat winner; perhaps she can work out an ideal trip here where she can make first run.
Secret Memo
Vast improvement in her latest placing where she made 2 moves; despite drawing wider today, she should benefit by the lack of a strong pace that is projected here; worth some exacta consideration again.
Miss Go Free
Did not recover from a slow getaway in her maiden voyage way back in May; her sire won a G1 in Argentina en route to earning 36K; the dam won 3 of 10 attempts and 85K: there are no winning siblings to mention.
Moon Ride
Synergistic combination of blinker addition and class relief; steady half-mile workouts in the last dozen days should have her pointed in the right direction; looks like a primetime contender but a short price is certain.
Easter Chorus (GB)
Gets the makeover package following her crossing of the pond long ago; her sire won multiple G1s and 694K while the dam won 1 of 4 and 19K; there are no winning siblings to mention; not out of the question.
U R My Candy Girl
After a solid placing 3 starts back, she did not show more fondness for the extension in distance; ran well in her last attempt at this precise distance and has run well from wide slots in the past; may surprise.
Graduator
On the shelf for a little more than 14 months, she is scheduled to race with blinkers for the first time; doubt she can presently recapture the performance level of the bitter defeat 2 races back; suggest a wait and see betting approach.
Frannie'sspirittoo
No fun at all breaking from this outpost and she has clearly beaten by this caliber 2 back; gets in with the proverbial feather today but that may not be enough to create a sudden turnaround; pass for now. - Jim Kachulis
Race 7
Dekko (ARG)
Gelding from Argentina backed up quickly in both U.S. starts and has been given six months off by new trainer Sam Scolamieri. Recent workouts are improved and today's shorter trip can only help him.
Major Magic
Claimed back by Robertino Diodoro for $25,000 November 23. Most of his best races in Southern California have come going short, so the distance change should suit him. Diodoro is a solid 20 per cent moving from route to sprint. A single workout in the month since his last race is a negative.
Relentless Heat
Six-year-old is 4-for-11 on turf, but is making his first start on the Betfair Hollywood Park lawn. Hasn't won since January and has lacked the necessary finish recently. Drops below his purchase price for Pete Eurton, who takes the seven-pound apprentice allowance with Gonzalo Nicolas.
Gal Has to Like It
Won for this price at Fresno in October, then tired to fourth in a first-level allowance at Golden Gate November 2. Last scored for Maldonado, who could have the Florida bred in perfect position, just off Big Note.
Romeo Royale
Been spinning his wheels lately with several poor efforts at varying distances. Stays at the same level for Gary Stute, who is winless with four starters this meeting. Rider also struggling with one victory from 43 mounts. Seemed better last year.
A Pint for Mary
Veteran has managed four victories this year, but against vastly inferior competition. One for three on turf, with that win coming against $8,000 stock. Hard to overlook class disadvantage, but trainer is having a fine year (10-for-48).
Korban
Hasn't hit the board in four 2013 starts, but comes off a fast-finishing fourth at this price on Cushion Track November 21. With Marty Jones also saddling top contender Dixieland Blues, the trainer can afford to give his other starter some grass experience.
Dixieland Blues
Dropped back to last in the California Flag Handicap at Santa Anita October 19, but had won two of his previous three starts. One of those was a stretch running victory in a California-bred allowance race at this distance during the Spring/Summer meeting. The In Excess gelding is reunited with Bejarano.
Big Note (IRE)
Plenty of lick, but little stick for the Irish bred. Only victory in 11 U.S. starts came against $8,000 claimers August 9 at Santa Rosa. Claimed that day by Javier Sierra, who removes blinkers for this. Should supply his rivals a ready target. - Mike Superstein
Race 8
Queen Mad
Very fine maiden voyage against claimers turned in 16 days ago; her sire won a G2 and 793K while the dam scored in 2 of 11 appearances earning 38K; this is her only foal to make it to the races.
Mia Luccia
Draws an inner post position for a change and can upgrade following an even performance earlier this month; was part of a sharp pace in the effort 2 back, first outing since the summer; may show more endurance here.
Elda
Firster hails from G1 victor Majestic Warrior who notched 239K and whose offspring have won 9 out of 114 debuts; the dam did not race; among the winning siblings is 58K earner Flash Five.
Steal the Lute
Sired by Breeders' Cup champion Midnight Lute who banked 2.69 million and whose progeny have won 8 percent of their debuts; the dam won 1 of 12 and 79K; winning sibs include 257K earner Courageous Act.
Soar Home
Broke alertly but then steadied when rallying into contention first out; her sire won the Kentucky Derby and 1.99 million in total; the dam was without a tally in 9 attempts; sib to 70K earner Yes He's Trouble.
Zensational Beauty
Beginner was sired by multiple G1 winner Zensational who captured 669K (his progeny have won 3 of 36 initial starts); the dam won 1 of 6 and 38K; among the winning siblings is 33K earner Stormy Beauty.
Gouyen
A pair of decent workouts at five-eighths recently; her sire won 2 of 4 attempts and 77K; descendants of Tribal Rule have won approximately 14 percent of their first races; the dam won 2 of 10 and 144K; sib to 240K earner Mark Up Tiny.
Koukla
Sired by Northern Afleet, a G2 winner who garnered 626K (his offspring have won 77 out of 593 debuts); the dam went 1 for 7 earning 43K; winning siblings include 64K earner Ready for Flight. - Jim Kachulis
Race 9
Deep Play
Like to see the improvement he showed when placed over turf at second asking, but not only is he meeting up with winners for the first time, but this is his first start since July 2012; prefer to just watch him today to see what he might be capable of going forward.
Full Instinct
He showed up with a much improved performance while making his second start back from a long layoff in his latest outing, but feel that it is fair to question his ability to carry his sharp early speed this far.
Big Man in Town
He has some early speed to employ, but his latest start after a long layoff wasn't an encouraging performance, and it's not like his form prior to needing all of that time off was very strong.
Pulpit's Express
Based on what he's done in his last four starts, it's tough to look past him in this spot, and it looks like he tuned up with a sharp six furlongs on December 16 in preparation for this; winner from latest returned to win next out at Dmr on 9/1 going 1 1/8m over turf in a G2 with a 91 Beyer.
Kessabtsi
Maybe if he can find his way back to one of his better performances he can have a say in the outcome, but he must improve over his recent form in order to contend, and this gelding has just two wins after 34 career starts; looking in another direction.
Volkonsky
He looks like a decent fit at this level of competition and he earned a career best Beyer Speed Figure in his most recent start over turf two races ago; that said, he's going to have to hope that Pulpit's Express shows up with a sub par performance to have a shot at the top spot; Talamo has won with 7 of 21 (33%) mounts for this barn in 2013.
Wings of Mojave
Like to see the improvement that this gelding has displayed since moving into this barn, but he is meeting up with winners for the first time, and he will have to step up his game to get the better of these; runner up from latest won next out at BHP on 12/12 going 6f over turf vs. MSW rivals with a 76 Beyer.
Ashley's Bambino
He commands his share of respect based on his consistent approach to the game and perhaps his connections are looking for him to be ready to run a good one as they reunite him with Bejarano; nevertheless, a minor award appears to be the ceiling. - Brian Pochman
Race 10
Smoove It
Filly faces the boys; the added distance here is a slight concern but ran well over the track again in last when troubled; the 3-back dirt winner repeated in a BHP-100K stakes with a 71 Beyer speed figure; she graduated on today's oval in June defeating the show runner who Beyered 72 in a next-out a DMR-MSW graduation.
Pray Hard
Found himself on the lead in last then widened the advantage as a heavy-betting choice; has been defeated by a few of these so has to pass the class test today vs. winners; has rated well in the past but off last would figure he wants to be in the pace mix from the gate; the win rider sides with Aotearoa who defeated him in the career debut.
Ghost of Harrenhal
Massive-class leap from the maiden-claiming ranks into a stakes event; it is 1st time vs. winners and 1st time on a synthetc surface while late runner cuts back in distance which is another concern; 59 days since the graduation party so will be taking a wait and see approach.
Mass Transit
His 1st start on a synthetic surface is a key-race victory defeating the runner-up and 11th-place finishers from last; they Beyered 74-60 in next-out BHP-MSW and 50K-maiden-claiming wins; the way he rallied over the track 43 days ago the added half furlong here is a major plus.
Alpine Luck
50 days since a dull effort on turf; he has clearly been best on BHP synthetic however the trainer's 0-for the last-16 with the turf-to-synthetic angle; only race at today's distance on synthetic was a dull Grade 1 defeat; posted a steady worktab for a 9%-winning fresh trainer.
Tizouttasight
Exits a career-best Beyer when screaming out for more distance off the 61-day layoff when racing without blinkers for the 1st time; debut win was posted on today's BHP synthetic; not a good sign that his multiple-win rider Maldonado lands on Life Is a Joy who easily defeated him 2-races back.
Convoy
Has never been this far while leaving GG for the 1st time ever; maidens vs. winners is tough call but in 2-year-old races even 1st-time starters can win; worked a GG bullet for this; the added distance figures to help the cause but still seems overmatched.
California Chrome
His dirt debut for latest was not too enticing but clearly has been best on synthetic surfaces during career including a BHP maiden breaker at much shorter than 7F; last victory was in July off a 46-day layoff which represents a co-field-best Beyer at 1.5F shorter than this; was not at his best 2-back when trying 7F; the show runner from last Beyered 88 in his next-out 100K-stakes win; the 2-time win rider sides with Alpine Luck for this.
Aotearoa
Major-class relief off graded events and into today's Cal-bred stakes; co-field-best Beyer was posted on turf at longer than 7F; was screaming out for more distance in last but cuts back in yardage here; worked well on BHP synthetic for this while this late runner needs a pace meltdown to score.
Better Bet
Lost all chance in latest when a stumbling at the start which left him 5 lengths back at the 1st call when 2 back he made the front then posted a new Beyer Top on dirt; winless on today's BHP synthetic surface and would need a massive improvment on his local last-place finish 29 days ago to upset these.
Life Is a Joy
Is perfect in sprints flashing big GG speed to begin career but in recent races has turned into a late runner; did not want any parts of 8.5F in latest loss over the track; new rider is his 4th different jockey in as many races which is not a good-win angle and for a 1-for-19 pilot for the trainer since 2012. - Art Gropper
Race 11
Tommy Danzigger
High Demand 4 for 31 with first-time turfers; sire took 5 of 6, earned nearly $200K, and was unbeaten in 4 turf races; dam took 2 sprints, was third in best turf moment; this is the lone winner she has dropped; Stratify exited the last race to cash next out in a classified allowance at Hastings, and 6th finisher took a $12.5K seller there in next; like fact this guy has natural speed but doesn't need the lead to win; trainer has spotted them expertly all year; surprise package.
Moonlit Meteor
Only one off effort and he was off poorly that day; winner of the Anita finale clicked right back in a $16K claimer with a 92 Beyer; this guy has a right to grow into his skin as kin to over $200K earner Shy Baby; repeat well within the realm.
Poshsky
Out of the money in both turf outs so he has something to prove; 10/25 winner repeated in an N1X here with an 87 Beyer; probably needs to really step it up to repeat here.
Anythingscookin
Must prove it on grass but he ran his eyeballs out in defeat two back; 4th finisher in last beat $25K claimers next out and the 9th finisher took care of $12.5K foes in next; a couple of nice drills since last, Garcia fits this guy; respect.
Woodmans Luck
Not the easiest spot for just a maiden winner and he has been off slowly of late; it took him nearly a month to post the recorded drill but that move and the spin on the 15th are eye-catching; Nakatani 4 for 14 for this barn in the last year or so; another slice?
Soul Candy
Trainer has spotted them just fine with limited starter this year; half of his wins have come on grass but he will need plenty of help up front; pro needs help up front but there seems to be enough pace in here to make it happen; look for him late if at all.
So Elite
Carefully placed one for 16 turf runner has trained steadily this month; 4th finisher in last beat $16K seller next out and the 5th finisher handled N1X foes at Remington on 10/17; through the years, Drysdale one of the best in pointing to a race; note place horse in last was well clear; can't be dismissed.
Mr. Candy Bar
Value should be there as he has been handled by a number of today's foes; not thrilled with the local turf slate but could envision him sitting a pretty good trip, maybe 4 or 5 off an honest pace screaming for room late; could easily be enticed into gimmick action.
Danderek (GB)
Proven fresh, he has a penchant for finding the wire as Bejarano strings along; gelding showed a new wrinkle in last coming from just off of it to win; a repeat of the 10/10 race and he will be in the thick of it.
Twin Six
Game in the win last time and note show horse was over 3 clear; 4 solid efforts in the last 5 efforts but he could be pitched at tad too high; would tread lightly here.
Depreciable
Basically flattered rival on the direct outside with the win last time; runner comes into the game relatively fresh; he has legit speed but can sit just off the pace and still perform; like the series of drills since including the clever move on the 16th; contention goes long.
Insideondoutside
Gelding stalked to no avail in last but is back on the preferred surface; runner was in kind of tough on the cut back and he has a right to rebound on the stretch out; check out the move on the 10th; don't be shocked if he returns with a vengeance.
No Contingency
He has only beaten 2 rivals on grass in the 2 outings; Beyers going in the right direction since he was claimed and he has a right to get this trip as kin Turbo Compressor was a successful router and banked over $950K; respect.
Buenos Dias (IRE)
Grinder has 4 times as many slices as wins and that makes him a tough on top only ticket; with his style, he is at the mercy of how the race sets up and if he can find a lane to rally into in time; spotty race record is a concern.
Warren's Joe T.
A press and fade 6th in the grass outing; game in the win in last but we really don't know how much it may have taken out of him and this is a tougher spot than the conditioned claimer; note place horse was clear for fun in last; soph has more speed than he just flashed and could muddle the pace if he goes; would think long and hard before taking too short a number; adios Hollywood my friend. - Brian Mulligan
