Bernardini colt breezes fastest furlong on Day 2 of Midlantic under-tack show
TIMONIUM, Md. - A colt by the late Bernardini threw down a sizzling furlong to lead the way at the under-tack preview for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale.
The Bernardini colt worked a furlong, the traditional measuring stick for these sales, in 9 4/5 seconds during Wednesday's second of three sessions for the breeze show on the dirt track at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. It was the first time since 2012 that a juvenile had broken the 10-second barrier on this track.
"We had huge expectations, and he exceeded them," said Carlos Manresa, a trainer for Becky Thomas's Sequel Bloodstock, which is consigning the colt on behalf of breeders Chester and Mary Broman.
The colt is out of the winning Medaglia d'Oro mare G Note, dam of three winners from as many starters. G Note is out of Grade 2 winner Seeking the Ante, who in turn is out of Grade 1 winner Antespend.
Seeking the Ante produced stakes winner Minerologist, dam of stakes winner Can You Diggit. She also produced stakes-placed Risk a Chance, dam of this year's Grade 2 winner Un Ojo. Antespend is the dam of Grade 1 winner Friends Lake.

Eighteen juveniles tied for the second-fastest furlong at 10 seconds flat. That group included a pair of colts by freshman sire Bolt d'Oro, a pair of fillies by fellow freshman Sharp Azteca, and juveniles by freshman sires Good Magic, Good Samaritan, and West Coast.
Two juveniles shared the fastest quarter-mile among the smaller group to work that longer distance on the five-furlong track. A filly from the first crop of Collected and a filly by Violence each breezed in 21 1/5 seconds.
The Collected filly, consigned by Coastal Equine, as agent, is out of the Arch mare Aurore, dam of stakes-placed Boreale and Orageuse. It is the direct female line of unbeaten champion and blue hen Personal Ensign.
The Violence filly, consigned by All Dreams Equine, as agent, is the first foal out of the Distorted Humor mare La Titina, whose dam is multiple Grade 1 winner and stakes producer Ask the Moon.
