Bermuda Star merits respect in Equine Sales Oaks
Bermuda Star could be favored Friday night in the $60,000 Equine Sales Oaks at Evangeline Downs. She is part of a field of seven for the 1 1/16-mile race, which is restricted to graduates of designated sales in Louisiana.
Bermuda Star is seeking her first win on dirt, but she is a winner at two turns. She accomplished the feat in February, winning a maiden special weight at about a mile on turf at Fair Grounds. One start later, Bermuda Star moved back to dirt and was fifth in the $75,000 Crescent City Oaks at Fair Grounds, splitting the field of 10.
Diego Saenz has the mount for Brittlyn Stable and trainer Victor Arceneaux. The chief threat could be Red La Rosa, who is stretching out to two turns off a fourth-place finish in the $50,000 Cajun Miss on April 14 at Evangeline.
