Belterra Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, plans to re-open June 4 with spectator-free racing, the track has announced. Belterra, which was scheduled to open its 2020 meet in April but delayed those plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has plans to run 75 total race dates this year, on a Tuesday-through-Friday schedule, with a first post of 12:35 p.m., the track said. The amended racing schedule was approved Tuesday by the Ohio Racing Commission. However, Belterra said that the track “reserves the right to modify the live racing schedule without notice with the approval of the Ohio Racing Commission.” Like all racetracks in Ohio, Belterra’s purses are heavily subsidized by a casino at the track. The casino will remain closed until the state grants permission for gambling facilities to open, the track said. Last week, Ohio’s governor gave racetracks permission to run live races spectator-free as of May 22. Belterra is the only track in Ohio to announce plans to re-open since that announcement. Belterra is owned by Boyd Gaming, which owns a number of racetrack-casinos throughout the United States. :: To stay up to date, follow us on: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter
