Irish War Cry breaks alertly and rushes to the front past the stands for the first time while Tapwrit uses his No. 2 post to establish position along the inside. Gormley steadies a bit after getting bumped at the start while Patch gets hung wide from his outside post.

Jose Ortiz angles Tapwrit off the rail entering the stretch to attack a still-fresh Irish War Cry.

Ortiz takes Tapwrit a bit wider onto the track for better footing and narrows in on Irish War Cry leaving the eighth pole. Gormley and Patch battle on for minor spoils.

Tapwrit is clear at the wire, giving Ortiz his first classic victory and trainer Todd Pletcher his third Belmont win.
